ABOUT US

There are sections on all aspects of quarries and quarrying.

There is a wealth of quarrying information for quarry safety for children and organised quarry visits for children to experience a working quarry, with such activities as rock panning and fossil dipping.

Click on the links for more detailed information on quarries and quarrying.

The Virtual Quarry is brought to you by the Quarry Products Association (QPA)

The project has been substantially supported by the Mineral Industry Research Organisation (MIRO). MIRO distributes funding that comes from a government tax on aggregates through its Mineral Industry Sustainable Technology Programme.

The Quarry Products Association is the trade association for companies involved in supplying stone from land, marine and recycled sources. Its members are also involved in the production of asphalt for our roads and ready-mixed concrete, which is the world’s most widely used building material.

Other activities covered by the QPA include production of silica sand for industrial uses, lime for farming and industry, mortar for bonding brocks and slag, which is a substitute for cement.

The Quarry Products Association would like to acknowledge the support of the following in this project:

QPA members
Camborne School of Mines
Earth Science Teachers Association
Earth Science Education Unit
English Nature
Health & Safety Executive
National Stone Centre
University of Leeds
Waste & Recycling Action Programme (WRAP)
